Diversity in the Fire Service

The American Psychological Association defines culture as, “a dynamic system of explicit and implicit rules established by a group to ensure its survival.” Historically, the fire service has been comprised of European American men and the unique experiences of diverse groups has been limited. In order to attract and maintain diverse workforces, fire service leaders benefit from understanding the value of diversity and advocate for inclusion.
